$ openvclient connectors --list

30 connectors. Plug into everything

SQL databases, NoSQL stores, message queues, object storage and servers. Every connector is a native, built-in driver: no plugins to hunt for, no JDBC jars.

the toolbox

Everything ops reaches for

The tools you open every day, in one fast window.

SQL editor that keeps up

Highlighting, autocomplete, tabs, run the statement at the cursor or just your selection, cancel long queries, and keep your history.

Plans you can actually read

Graphical execution plans like SSMS: every operator as a box with its share of the cost, arrows sized by rows. Spot the slow scan instantly.

SSH terminal built in

A real terminal tab, an SFTP browser and remote commands. Keys, agents, certificates, OTP and jump hosts all supported.

Monitor & administer

Sessions, locks and live metrics, users and privileges, backup and restore, schema browsing with DDL: the admin chores, done.

Environments, not accidents

Tag connections dev, test, staging or prod. Production asks you to type the name before anything destructive.

security

Secrets stay secret

OpenVClient was security-audited before its first beta, and the fixes shipped.

  • Keychain only. Passwords, keys and tokens live in macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager or the Linux Secret Service. Never in plain files.
  • Encrypted at rest. SQL history and connection URLs with passwords are AES-256-GCM encrypted.
  • No silent trust. New SSH host keys show their fingerprint and wait for your OK.
  • Read-only means read-only. Writes are blocked on read-only connections, and restores refuse dumps that would run shell commands.

Frequently asked questions

Is OpenVClient really free?

Yes. OpenVClient is free and open source under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence. There is no paid tier, no account to create and no telemetry.

Which databases and services does it support?

PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server and Azure SQL, SQLite, ClickHouse, Kingbase and GaussDB; MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch and OpenSearch, and RabbitMQ; Amazon S3 and S3-compatible storage such as Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces, IDrive e2 and MinIO; Azure Blob Storage; SSH and SFTP, FTP and FTPS, and Docker.

Can it replace DBeaver, TablePlus or Azure Storage Explorer?

For many everyday jobs, yes. OpenVClient covers SQL editing, schema browsing, data editing, execution plans, user management and backups, and it also browses cloud storage and opens SSH terminals, all in one native app. It is younger than those tools and still in beta, so check that the features you rely on are listed before switching.

Where does OpenVClient store my passwords?

Only in your operating system's credential store: macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager or the Linux Secret Service. Query history and connection strings that contain passwords are encrypted on disk with AES-256-GCM.

Can I connect through an SSH tunnel or bastion host?

Yes. Every network connector can go through an SSH tunnel, a SOCKS5 proxy or an HTTP proxy. SSH supports passwords, keys, agents, certificates, one-time codes and jump hosts, and new host keys are shown for you to confirm.

Which operating systems are supported?

macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel, Windows 10 and 11 on x64 and ARM64, and Linux on x64 and ARM64 as .deb, .rpm or AppImage.

Is it ready for production use?

OpenVClient is in public beta. The connectors are tested against real servers, but expect rough edges, and use read-only connections or a staging copy when trying it against important systems. Bugs and requests are welcome on GitHub.
